GUSSET SHIRT
WITH FALLING COLLAR & CUFFS

During the latter part of the 16th century, the shirt collar began to show above the doublet collar. There are many paintings showing a wide variety of shirt collars, some only "peeking out", others of a medium length, while some literally "fall" over the doublet collar. At the same time, turn-back cuffs began to appear as well. Our version of this style is on the basic rapier shirt with an embroidered cut-work falling collar and matching turn-back cuffs. (Should be worn with doublet and sleeves as shown in the picture.)
Design of cut-work and laces will vary as the supply changes. Vee is no longer available.

GUSSET RAPIER SHIRT
This white trigger shirt is to be worn with the Basic Sleeveless Doublet (RC1A) or Speciality Fabric Doublets/Jerkins to make it legal for rapier. It has double sewn seams and 4 layers of trigger in a quilted underarm gusset. (Pictured right is the Ruffle Collar and Cuffs.)

The stock shirt comes with ribbon ties at the collar and cuffs. If you would like to have metal buttons instead of ribbons, there will be additional $5.00 added to the cost of the shirt.

FAUX BLACKWORK RAPIER SHIRT

This white trigger shirt is available in the same styles as the Gusset Shirt. It has a faux blackwork trim added to the pearl buttoned collar and cuffs. The picture shows the trim in combination with the ruffle collar and cuffs.

ATTENTION We have changed our sizing slightly to add another size. The large is 2" smaller than before. The XL is 4 inches smaller and the old XL size is now 2X!

OUR SIZING STANDARDS FOR RAPIER SHIRTS

Our Rapier Shirts are not sized by modern sizing standards since period clothing does not fit like modern clothing. The numbers in the sizing chart are ACTUAL BODY MEASUREMENTS, not modern sizes. These shirts have a straight cut in the body to eliminate excess material under your doublet.


ATTENTION - FEMALE RAPIER FIGHTERS

The sizing instructions are for men only! These shirts are cut long in the torso and fit most men; however, the majority of the women fencers will need to get a side slit to accomodate their hips. Also, the feminine bust versus the masculine chest has to be taken into consideration so you will probably wear a size smaller than these instructions. There is no extra charge for side slits! IF you want the body made wider at the hips that is a custom size and has an additional charge. We ask that you contact us with your bust and hip measurements and arm length (nape to wrist) and we will insure that your receive the correct size for your figure.

All rapier fighters are encouraged to contact us, if you still aren't sure which size would fit you best.
Have your actual chest/girth measurements ready to give us.

There is a great deal of leeway from size to size because the gussets add extra room in the chest area. If you are not sure which size you need or if you fall between sizes, please contact us and we will help you make the proper size selection. If your actual body measurements (chest or girth) are a great deal larger or smaller than the ones listed on this chart
you will probably need the pattern adjusted to a custom size. The largest shirt measures 58" so if you are larger than 54" across your girth you will need a custom size.
There will be an additional charge for custom sizes.
